Hello all and welcome to my Pitch Wars Mentee Bio! I’m Keeya Marquez, a craft-loving, writer, reader, and social studies teacher-in-training! This kind of feels like the first day of school introductions, which as a future educator I love.
You can call me Ms. Marquez!
I’ve always been an avid reader (now it comes when I have time between school, work, and writing), and my favorite book is The Hunger Games, though there are many others that come in a close second. I’ve also been writing stories for as long as I can remember. I started getting ideas for a dystopian book my senior year of high school and played around a little with writing. But it wasn’t until last summer that my book really started to take the shape it has now. I know dystopian is a tough sell right now (cue the self-doubt), but I’ve always heard to write what you love, and I could never stray from the story in my heart. With the grace of the Lord, some serious support from my family (my little brother has so eloquently told me that if I ever quit writing he’ll beat me up) and my amazing boyfriend, I’m ready to get my book out into the world!
“The Fourth Reich” is set three hundred years in the future. America has been taken over by Neo-Nazis and is now called New Germany. The Pure Germans run the nation. All the others, also known as the Impure, provide necessities. Everything is perfect.
But Haven Williams doesn’t think so.
Stubborn, smart, and outspoken, 18-years-old Haven does not fit the mold of a nice German woman, and when she attacks one of the most powerful young men in the nation in self-defense, her life is turned upside down. She is sent to the Order Castle as a prisoner to become a soldier. But what she doesn’t know is that part of becoming a soldier is taking a serum that turns her into a super-human. When the man she attacked gives her the serum, he gives her enough to kill her.
But she lives. Becoming the strongest soldier ever created, and the key to New Germany ridding themselves of the rebels that had been threatening the German machine throughout the nation’s history.
Haven has to learn how to control the powers she never wanted, face the crippling anxiety brought on by the drug, and all the while learn how to protect the ones she loves in the rising tensions of the nation she calls home. She will have to face the truth of what is happening around her.
She will have to recognize what must be done for the sake of them all.
This book has been a labor of love, and I’m ready to work hard for my dreams! I would like to wish all the other contestants good luck, and I would especially like to thank Brenda Drake for doing so many awesome things for aspiring writers, Lana Pattinson for hosting the Blog Hop, and all the mentors for all they will do for the finalists!
May the odds be ever in our favor!
Also, I know, I know. A lack of GIFs! How lame. You’ll just have to trust that I’m alright 🙂
